Every Fairy Tale Has To End
Comedian Harmonists - Theater Paderborn, 17th & 18th May, 2012
Two days after the final show I still cannot believe it is all over.
Having seen six of a total (on public sale) seventeen shows at end (just one extra show was added at end but with the ticket sale practice (either just at box office, "great" if you do not live in Paderborn, or just by phone, "great" if you have a job where you cannot call outside lunch break etc., but the theatre called that fair - I call it totally unacceptable) I could not get decent tickets anymore I decided not to go but the other shows were worth every cent, any minute spent on the three trips.
This show was definitely one, maybe even THE highlight of this spring.
Where to start? Normally I (try to) structure my posts somehow but today.... I wrote about the show already a few weeks ago so this will just focus on special to me important thoughts and memories.
It is incredible how attached you, well I got to this show, to the stunning cast and that after going to the show on 20th April with not many expectations but to see Thomas Christ and Oliver Nöldner onstage again.
I loved the show the first weekend (>> post about first shows I saw) but seeing how they had grown closer together and how comfortable they'd got with each part since then and even exceeding the quality I saw back then was leaving me speachless and overwhelmed.
The seven guys (Till Bleckwedel, Daniel Große Boymann, Thomas Christ, Kristian Lucas, Rafael Meltzer, Oliver Nöldner & Andreas Schneider), the creative team and all techs etc. brought such a jewel onstage that needed no further polishing.
It just delivers what I want from a great show (apart from the few issues I have with the book especially in act 2, but that is only me nitpicking): interesting story, fantastic music, amazing cast, slick direction, impressive set including lights, costumes etc..
Even me feeling poorly as suffering from laryngitis could not harm my enjoyment and listening to comments from people around me made me somehow proud. Normally I hate it when people cannot shut up during the show but when I heard a woman commenting behind me "Wow, he has an amazing voice" when Thomas was singing his first lines it made me smile.
Thursday show was just purely about enjoying it from A - Z. Watching and listening to the guys was making me most happy, I was even more impressed especially with Oliver's acting. Gosh, the detailed facial impressions he does so perfectly without ever going OTT looking realistic and true (Stage Entertainment, can I please see him in War Horse in Berlin next year? ;-) ), same for gestures, posture etc. - I couldn't have asked for a more convincing performance.
Andreas sang even sweeter and was blonder as Ari, Thomas was even funnier in his "buffo" moments and sang most beautifully, Till was even more the strong grown man, Kristian, Daniel and Rafael were also just wonderful...
I was not sure about the teenagers behind me in the second row as they were a bit excessively laughing about the most random scenes but each to their own and overall the audience was again so appreciative and enthusiastic just as the show deserved.
The final show then on Friday night was an emotional one and I know now my waterproof mascara is anything but properly waterproof ;).
It didn't take long to get teary. Seriously I need to learn to be less affective. The smallest scene, moment in the show, sometimes just a line would touch me thinking I'd might never hear them saying that again or in the case of Oliver not knowing when I see him again onstage wanting him so much to get another job asap (I seriously sound more and more fanatic ;-) ). But they were so much "on fire" giving a truly outstanding final performance.
There were some for me entertaining moments with the guy next to me giving me funny looks (yeah, I have seen the show before), even though less than had expected, as tradition for a final night some changes were made as when Rafael Meltzer auditions as a Bavarian in the first scene, but I suppose there is just so much you can do in certain shows.
Special moments to me: When Till kneeled down in front of me singing some of the lines "Hallo, was machst du heut', Daisy?" (Hello, what do you do tonight Daisy?) when he normally did that to a woman further to the left (sat in the middle of the front row again) I was slightly getting embarrassed especially when the guy next to me burst into laughter about it (I seriously must have entertained him nearly as much as the guys onstage ;) ).
I even got more embarrassed at the end.
At curtain call, well one of the encores respectively, Rafael Meltzer came onstage as a cleaner normally just taking the gramophone with him that stands onstage but this time he got a little cactus out of a coat pocket (it was a real one - ouch!) he handed to the cast - that cactus ended up with me during the last number as Thomas decided to give it to me.
I hadn't noticed it he was taking it as Oliver stood in front of me as they shook hands with the people in the front row till he actually bent over to hand it to me. Oh dear, the comments I got after the show from others in the audience... Yes, it is a real cactus!
As embarrassed as I got did the poor girl working as the assistant director too whom they got onstage for the first encore changing part of the song title mentioned above from Daisy to Karo. So sweet to watch that.
Well, I better stop now as I still get deeply moved and I cannot thank the guys enough for such a perfectly wonderful time, especially of course Thomas and Oliver whom am even more smitten with after these weeks.
This board was even not up anymore for last shows. |
