It just brings sunshine into people's hearts

Villa Sonnenschein - Schmidt Theater, Hamburg 18th January, 2013

It's BACK for its 2013 season, unfortunately just for eight weeks and I am more picky this year with what shows I see preferring to see the people I like in the alternated roles. Well last Friday saw the first show of two of the new guys, Katrin Taylor and Regina Lemnitz, plus the other two newbies, Johanna Haas and Heiko Fischer, who had their first show on Wednesday were on too - so four new, four old - and the fun I sometimes had missed last season was back.

I do adore the show. It is a sometimes silly little show with a lot of heart and I have seen it several times,  for the last seven years as can be read in my 2012 posts which give also more info about the actual show - this will be short and sweet.

Mechthild - Franziska Kuropka
Melanie - Katrin Taylor
Felix - Marco Knorz
Doctor Mathieu - Kai Bronisch
Carlotta von Pörtschach - Regina Lemnitz
Gustav - Heiko Fischer
Hubert - Burkhard Heim
Lara/Margarethe - Johanna Haas

It was a rather spontaneous idea to go as I just learnt the evening before of that news, but it was so worth to go and I cannot praise the guys enough.

Especially Regina Lemnitz, most people in Germany might know as the German voice of Whoopi Goldberg among others but also from TV (funny moments listening to the people next to me wondering where they know that voice from lol), as the old diva Carlotta von Pörtschach gave a performance that was so subtly nuanced and detailed that you could have not told it was her first performance. She caught the spirit of the part so perfectly with also adding her own touches in how she e.g. delivered lines I had never thought they could make me laugh but which suddenly did and others making me cry in her sadder moments. What a dazzling interpretation.

But Katrin Taylor, once known to me as Katrin Löbbert having seen her several times as Sarah in Tanz Der Vampire (and I was not too much a fan of her back then) could make a good first impression too.
There were some moments when she was a bit too hyper for me as Melanie who I consider to be a relaxed easy-going smart young woman and not a girlie Katrin occasionally portrayed her as but then there were moments when she could totally shine and her big solo number hardly ever sounded better having the right vocal range meeting the high demand of that song. Give her a few more shows and she will be there

Heiko Fischer, who is Hans B. Götzfried's successor (and unfortunately Robin Brosch is not around anymore now being part of the Rocky cast), is an excellent addition to the cast with his Gustav being so hilariously brash and impudent but without ever getting too vulgar as Corny Littmann is. It will be interesting to see his approach to the part of Hubert alternating that part with Burkhard Heim (who was just as adorable as always).
Johanna Haas, the new Lara/Margarethe plus "2nd hand" is also a lovely addition to the show. Her Lara is not too much the cutie the others used to portray her but still lovesome. She may just need some more shows as she had issues with some of the routines when she was onstage as "2nd hand".

I was also so pleased to see my current personal favourites of this show Kai Bronisch and Marco Knorz again.
I hadn't seen Kai since his last Villa Sonnenschein show in 2012 as he just had done Heiße Ecke since then and I am not too much into that show and after I was not too impressed by the kids show "Es War Einmal" over Christmas season starring Marco I had hardly seen him either since spring 2012.
Both were just on top form again feeding of each other, the other cast, the rather mental (sometimes even a bit too mental) audience  giving all.
Besides the fun moments of the show having me in stitches it was especially Marco's one solo number when Felix is telling about him feeling hurt in act 2 being so poignant and a real tearjerker. Thank god, I was not wearing any mascara for a change. ;-)

Overall it is great to have the show back at the Schmidt Theater with so little on there these days I fancy to see. It is still a show close to my heart making me leave the theatre with a big smile and I can only hope that this season won't be the last one.
